Wet diamond core drilling depends on a steady water film at the cutting face, not a flood that only soaks the operator. Too little water overheats the crown and glazes the diamonds; too much washes slurry into the kerf and can stall the bit in deep holes. A correct setup keeps the barrel cool, clears cuttings and protects the hole wall.
Start with a dedicated feed to the swivel, not a garden hose that kinks every time the rig is moved. Check that water actually exits the crown before the motor is loaded. On vertical holes, a simple catch ring or wet vac at the surface keeps slurry off the slab and off the operator boots.
If torque rises and water backs up around the barrel, ease off feed, keep rotation and let the water clear the kerf. Pulling the bit out while it is still spinning can spray slurry, but a short lift often restores cooling.
