Proper storage and maintenance extend diamond blade life and reduce safety risk. Follow these practices for flat storage, corrosion control, and pre-use inspection in fabrication shops and job sites.
Storage Conditions
Store blades flat on a clean rack or in original packaging. Hanging blades by the center hole alone can cause warping over time. Keep steel cores dry; apply a light oil film on unused inventory in humid climates to prevent rust at the arbor bore.
Pre-Use Inspection
- Check for cracks in the core or segment weld lines
- Confirm arbor size matches the flanges on the saw
- Verify max RPM rating exceeds the machine operating speed
- Look for missing or uneven segments before mounting
During and After Cutting
Allow blades to cool naturally; do not quench hot blades in water. Clean swarf from the arbor and flanges before remounting. Rotate stock so older blades are used before newer ones in warehouse programs.
When to Retire a Blade
