Sintered diamond core bits are manufactured by mixing diamond particles with metal powders and sintering under high temperature and pressure. The resulting bond matrix holds the diamonds in place while exposing new cutting edges as the bit wears.
Copper-bond bits offer excellent cutting speed on hard, dense materials such as granite and porcelain. The softer bond allows diamonds to be released at a controlled rate, maintaining a sharp cutting surface. They perform best with continuous water feed and moderate feed pressure.
Steel-bond bits provide longer life when drilling softer or more abrasive stones like marble and limestone. The harder matrix resists wear from abrasive particles, making them suitable for high-volume production environments. They may require slightly higher feed pressure to expose fresh diamonds.
Always match bit diameter to the intended anchor or fixture size. Use a template or guide to ensure perpendicular entry and prevent bit wander.
